Folded Wings Tutorial by Mink-the-Satyr Folded Wings Tutorial by Mink-the-Satyr
***I FORGOT A STEP! At the end, it should say "attach ribbon to the wire for decorative tying like a strap around the shoulders".***

A friend of my intends to go to Dragon*Con 2013 as Fluttershy from My Little Pony. She asked me a week ago if I could make her costume. She intended to just get those craft foam wings you can buy on the internet. I told her I wanted to try to make real wings. This including dying stuff (i.e. feathers) for the first time (for me).

Anyway, a few days later, these wings were made! I decided to tutorial it because there are 8,000 tutorials on wings, but most of them are outstretched wings. Fluttershy is shy, and her wings aren't all that strong. So I thought it would be more in character to give her demure, folded wings.

Those look great!

My LARP group just destroyed a set of wings we've had for several years which were used as part of a harpy costume. How do you think these would hold up over time?

Thank you!
I think if you replaced the hot glue I used with shoe goo (which is just a stunning adhesive) and used a base of 4-5 oz leather instead of foam-core, these would hold up to some fair abuse and storage changes (both of which are notorious reasons for why LARP costumes don't "survive".

The wings from this tutorial hold up to "convention" style events (not rolling around on them) and standard in-house/room temperature storage.
